Elysium Engines

One of the biggest mysteries to those who choose to visit the honoured heights of New Eden is of a simple fact that boggles many, How do they keep everything afloat? One of the greatest miracles to come to fruition from the Edenite Developers was the Elysium Engines. The Elysium Engine is a new type of fuel-expending engine that can burn almost endlessly and keep orbital settlement platforms such as those underneath New Eden afloat and in service to those whom live on top of them.

Utility

Although not useful particularly for transit or any type of travel that requires speed, the Elysium Engine is awfully good at keeping something in the air and have it not fall down for an incredibly long time. This benefit makes them perfect for the purpose of keeping the settlements across the expanse of space afloat and functioning as space that can hold masses of people and citizens of the Empire.

Elysium engines are usually found on the underside of the central structures of a city, each engine can hold 10km of normal city infrastructure afloat with heavier or more complex parts of the city requiring engines placed more frequently. These engines are silent and almost undetectable for those who are not in the business of repairing or dealing with them. In the typical lifespan of an Elysium engine they would require maintenance roughly every 15-20 years / cycles of the star.

Social Impact

Elysium Engines made New Eden possible, and all the settlements that would come after New Eden and provide the age of the new city entirely. They created a generous helping of new jobs, from those who manufacture the engines, to those who provide critical maintenance and observation of their condition.
