Sethrava Isle

Sethrava Isle lies far from established sea lanes, its shores perpetually veiled by mist and its interior wholly consumed by dense, stratified jungle. The island is immense, mountainous at its core, and notoriously resistant to thorough exploration. Heat and moisture render prolonged expeditions arduous, and the land itself seems to reclaim stone with unnatural speed. Throughout the lowlands and foothills stand the remains of an ancient civilization—most notably stepped pyramids and ceremonial plazas—whose architectural style bears no clear relation to any culture of the known world.

These ruins are attributed to the Liakil, a people believed to have vanished long before recorded history. Fragmentary inscriptions and surviving reliefs suggest a society deeply preoccupied with serpent imagery, though whether this reflects religious devotion or mere symbolism remains uncertain. In the present age, Sethrava Isle is inhabited by scattered tribes of serpentfolk, commonly identified as Yuan-ti, who are widely presumed to be later arrivals making opportunistic use of Liakil stoneworks. No credible evidence has been found to explain the Liakil’s disappearance, and most scholars caution against attributing the isle’s dangers to anything beyond climate, isolation, and superstition.
