The Last Day of the World We Knew - Notos 50/Dysis 1
The word apocalypse is an unfortunately misunderstood one. The Eclipse, the confluence of the planes, was an apocalypse, but it was not the end of the world.
Our heroes spent the days leading up to the Eclipse relaxing, safe in the knowledge that devastation had been prevented, getting up to trouble, earning some coin and generally enjoying themselves. Then the destined day arrived, and they gathered on the rooftop of the Prince’s Palace to watch the world shift.
Swirling shadows across the ground that clung to feet, a webwork of lines across the sky as the stars went dark. A few heartbeats of dark before a kaleidoscope of images overhead as every plane was briefly visible, mixing and overlapping in impossible, eye-watering ways.
Cirina spotted, amidst the chaos, a plethora of new creatures deposited on the surface of Aurite, caught up in the churn and left behind as the old magic failed to do its job properly. All of our heroes, our reborn Harlequins, felt a new sense begin to press its way to the surface. An awareness, a pressure in a few directions, lingering as the Eclipse faded.
Light returned to the world, though the event did not pass unmarked. The sun’s color changed, coruscating through the visible spectrum as it sailed overhead. The Harlequins spoke briefly about what to do, so far from the centers of information, and decided to head towards Bourrah and both one of the strange pressures and a location that Vasia’s heirophant had mentioned.
They traveled for a time, planning a brief detour to investigate the music in the Wastes, before a different wonder caught their attention. During Radjic and Neesja’s watch, they spotted a shape in the dark. Large, vaguely reptilian, one that hadn’t been seen in two hundred years. A dragon.
They quickly roused the party, with Vasia and Akito wanting to immediately rush off in an attempt to befriend the dragon and Cirina managing to get a particularly clear look at the vast creature, while Radjic recalled a memory of Sina’s, her speaking with something old, malicious and winged.
Once light broke, they set off towards Bourrah at pace to warn them of an ancient danger, finding on the way a destroyed caravan. The dragon, it seemed, had decided to break from its flight and catch a meal, perhaps giving the Harlequins just enough time to beat it to town.
