Tutan II

Tutan II, King of The Realm, was the last monarch of that place before it became part of the United Kingdom of Wonderland. Nicknamed the Old Salt for his love of sailing and storytelling, his first act as king was also salt-related—as were many of his acts after that. Obsessed with re-establishing Realmish dominance over the Edenian salt trade, he commissioned the openings of countless new mines over his eight-year reign—all of them designed to supplement the capital’s already bustling trade in sea salt.

Born Tutan Kaamraan VI in 224, he spent much of his early life living on the family farm in Mira’s Well. Even after his father ascended the throne in 227, young Tutan’s life didn’t change much. After all, his father moved the royal court to a barn on the farm and that enabled the boy to live just as his ancestors had done for generations.

It wasn’t until he reached adulthood that Tutan left the familiar confines of Mira’s Well and went off to see what else The Realm had to offer.

In the capital, the heretofore sheltered Tutan had his eyes opened to the vast possibilities of the world. After six months puttering around the city, he took a position as deckhand on a freighter which sailed the Sea of Tears. Then, after a year of narrow escapes from pirates like the infamous Captain Hook, he enlisted in the Royal Navy and served on a frigate to try and help keep the peace.

For the next ten years, tales of Tutan’s exploits both delighted and frightened the peoples of The Realm. To hear tell of a prince fighting for their safety and security so directly—that was inspiring. But to think of what might happen if he died in the line of duty, given that he was the only son of the king… well, that was pretty fobbing scary.

In 255, following the early death of his father, Tutan mustered out of service and was crowned the eighth (and soon to be final) King of the Realm. Finding the family farm too quiet for his liking, he returned the royal court to the capital. Then, reflecting on his years on the freighter and on his captain’s insistence that Realmish salt was the finest in the world, he made it his life’s mission to convince everyone else of that fact. For if he could just increase the kingdom’s coffers, he might finally be able to do what none of his predecessors had been able to do: afford a navy strong enough to finally subdue their lawless neighbors in Neverland.

In 263, after eight years of expanding and promoting Realmish salt—and eight years of trying and failing to end the problem of piracy on the Sea of Tears—Tutan consented Frieda Jacobs’ plan to bring The Realm under the umbrella of the nascent United Kingdom of Wonderland. Then, with Jacobs’ help and with financial assistance from the other constituent provinces of the United Kingdom, he got himself back on the deck of a ship and found his way right back into the fight of his life.

What an interesting life this guy had! I like how he gave zero F's and then ended the monarchy. Now that's a King I can get behind.

Well, he's one of the characters who will be turning up in the comic at some point, so I felt extra-incentivized to give him a great backstory!
