Galley

A galley is a type of ship that is propelled mainly by rowing. The galley is characterized by its long, slender hull, shallow draft, and low freeboard. Virtually all types of galleys had sails that could be used in favorable winds, but human effort was always the primary method of propulsion. This allowed galleys to navigate independently of winds and currents.   Galleys are very mobile and don't depend on wind like most other ships that makes them faster then most ships. Their mobility is achieved by exhaustive work of rowers and thus not many people are willing to work on these galleys, that makes finding sailors difficult and slaves and criminals often used for this exhaustive work. Galley mobility makes them perfect ships for trade, war and especially piracy, their speed makes them perfect for boarding operations but also good for circling around enemies and keeping them supressed by archer fire. Cargo capacity for galleys varied according to size but on average could carry 100 tons.   As good as galleys are they have a few inherited disadvantage one of them being very exhaustive for row that makes long travels very draining so galleys need to be in inland seas or close by cost to dock and let crew rest. Also their slender hull and shallow draft makes them very vulnerable in open seas or other waters witch strong winds that may flood galleys with big waves or tear holes in their thin hulls. This disadvantages forces galleys never go out in open seas and keep closer to the coast or in inner seas where wind isn't as dangerous.   Galley dependency on oar make them very valuable and often galley combat is focused on destroying enemy oars making them immobile and easy target for ramming. Ramming and boarding is the most used tactic with galleys their speed makes them devastating when ramming other ships and it can even split a ship in half if it rams it right at center.
Speed

Slow: 2-3 knots (not exhaustive)

Medium: 7-8 knots (can be maintained for entire day but exhausting)

Fast: 10 knots (can be maintained for 10 minutes but is very over exhaustive)
