Caravel

Caravel is small, highly manoeuvrable ship with a lateen sail. Caravels varied in size and could have 1-3 masts is easy to navigate and its draft is shallow. Caravels are usually built with a tower at the aftercastle.
Caravels lateen sail increased caravels speed and the capacity for sailing downwind making it highly manoeuvrable even in the open seas where wind is exceptionally strong. Its small size makes them fast but limiting when it comes to carrying capacity, average carrying capacity of caravels is only 50 tons making them not the best of trading ships. Their shallow draft and small size also makes them suitable for bigger rivers and makes them easy to dock.
Caravels are mostly used for transportation and exploration and not really suited for wars preferring escaping sea battles but can be good for transporting troops or resources over oceans or open seas. Because of their speed and manoeuvrability they can catch up to most ships so they may be used as boarding ships in open seas.
