The Hollow Lands

Named for the mysterious tunnels underneath many of the mountain ranges and canyons, the Hollow Lands are the HEG's landing location and region of interest for many of the factions operating on the planet Haven. It is a relatively small continent north of the equator that is covered in forests and wetlands. The area is desirable for colonization (most prior civilizations have mostly ignored the other continents) due to its temperate climate and rich resources.

Geography

Much of the continent is covered in various forests: conifer trees cover the mountains and interior, particularly in the East. Deciduous forests and some jungle surround the southern gulf. Near the lakes in the west these forests give way to wetlands. The landscape is pocketed by the impacts of craters small and large, most of them from a period of bombardment a few million years ago. This includes the massive crater sea, a large lake in the northeast. It is fairly deep and surrounded by a ring of mountains created by the impact. There are a number of mountain ranges dotting the continent, created by tectonic forces and volcanic eruptions. Many of these are extremely tall and often covered in snow, even during the summer.

Natural Resources

The hollow lands are very resource rich, making them an attractive location for outposts and colonies. While it does have plentiful animal life and timber, it is mostly noted for its raw ores and ancient ruins. Mines and quarries often find many rare materials deep underground that can be used for all kinds of vehicles, weapons, structures, and starships. There are a number of known natural gas deposits. Volcanic activity has also made the soil in many areas fertile, making farming on a large scale profitable.
Interesting, the landscape appears to covered in strange monolithic structures, some of them small and simple while others glow with incomprehensibly advanced energies. A few seem to be guarded by advanced robotic organisms that fight off attacks and potential harms.
