Skeleton
Skeletons were undead animated corpses similar to zombies, but completely devoid of flesh and did not feed on the living. They could be made from virtually any solid creature, and as such their size and power varied widely. In addition to the basic humanoid skeleton, there were also skeletons created from wolves, trolls, ettins and even giants.
Although skeletons were most typically created from humanoid remains, many other varieties existed.
- Athach Skeleton - A skeleton from an aberration humanoid that has three arms instead of two.
- Baneguard - First developed by priests of Bane, these skeletons could phase in and out and hurl bolts of magical energy.
- Blazing Bones - Fiery skeletal undead created when a spellcaster's contingency spell goes wrong.
- Blazing Skeletons - A skeleton trapped to explode when destroyed by the necromancer who made them.
- Bloody Bones - A long-limbed, pale humanoid with a skinless head and saucer-shaped eyes stumbles forward. A steady drizzle of blood descends from its crown, painting its face, shoulders, and back a deep crimson.
- Bonebat - A bat-like skeletal creature, created from either the bones of several bats or one giant bat.
- Bonecrusher skeleton - Large creature skeletons that were able to swing a greatclub with devastating results.
- Bonepile Skeleton - An animated pile of bones that can function even when it's not all connected unlike many other skeletons.
- Boneshard - Spindly and strange, the boneshard is infused with unstable necrotic magic.
- Bonewretch - Literal dead-baby skeletons.
- Burnbones - Powerful priests of Ela who have been transformed into their current undead state.
- Decrepit Skeleton - At one time the decrepit skeleton was a normal skeleton, but that was a long time ago. Now, so much time has passed that the necromantic energies keeping the skeleton animated have weakened and its bones have started to rot and fall apart. A decrepit skeleton creaks and bone dust falls from it with every motion. While they can still fight, they are weaker than other skeletons and shatter with almost any blow or crumble to dust when affected by the power of the gods.
- Direguard - Baneguards improved by the Church of Ela, these skeletons are wreathed in a shadowy field of force that functions as Armor. They could also see invisible foes.
- Dread - Dreads were undead creatures in the form of a pair of skeletal arms from small - to medium-sized humanoids.
- Dry Bones - Dry bones are the same as skeletons with one important difference. They can only be destroyed when all their bones are pulverized or otherwise completely destroyed.
- Dust skeleton - Appeared like regular skeletons but with very dry bones, and much lighter as a result.
- Fiery skeleton - Burned with never-ending flames and it is immune to fire.
- Frost Skeleton - The pile of bones suddenly stirs, rising up to take on a human shape and bursts into blue-white icerime cold. Its long, bony fingers reach out to claw at the living, enshrouded with an unending cold that freezes to the core.
- Lightning Skeleton - The blones crackle as lightning shoots up and down them. If you're attacking with metal or wearing metal you best be careful.
- Merrow skeleton - A skeletal undead form of the merrow.
- Minotaur skeleton - A skeleton created from the corpse of a minotaur.
- Nimble skeleton - More agile than standard skeletons and able to climb as fast as it can walk.
- Obsidian skeleton - An obsidian jewel is imbedded in each skeleton’s forehead. Many also have blackened bones, as though they have been burned.
- Skeletal Tomb Guardian - Knights whose bodies were dedicated to a specific task in life and followed that task without fail can be raised as special-purpose animated skeletons known as tomb guardians. Just as they did in life, tomb guardians stand vigilant in the face of danger.
- Skeleton warrior - Powerful skeletons were created from great warriors who retained all of their fighting skills and enslaved to magical circlets. Highly resistant to magic and difficult to command, skeleton warriors were rarely found in groups greater than two or three.
- Skeletal dragon - Created from a dragon and retained some of their deadly abilities. Not to be confused with a dracolich.
- Skinwalker Skeleton - A skeleton with the ability to change into skeletons of other animals.
- Spike skeleton - Tougher than regular skeletons and covered with bony thorns.
- Warhorse skeleton - A skeleton created from the corpse of a war horse.
Basic Information
Biological Traits
The undead form of skeletons was held by necromantic energy, which kept otherwise loose bones and joints together and conferred on the undead corpse a glimmer of vitality and rudimentary intellectual capabilities.
