Mental characteristics
Personal history
Vatra is a shark-folk of the Morjusak Shiver. A coastal people who have always had a strong faith in the gods, even during times when such practices were outlawed.
When Vatra was young, the Zanshians had control over the region and often had elven patrols around the town. The garrison was a feared location in town and was often avoided by its residents. The square in front of the building was used for the punishment of the shark-folk. Much religious iconography was destroyed there.
Secret Shrines
Creyati, Sagas, and Tyfust were the three the people of Morjusak prayed to.
Rebellion
When Vatra reached his teens, he had seen and been a victim himself of Zanshian brutality and wanted to make a difference. He joined a group of rebels who wanted to free themselves from elven rule and had heard about the Heavenly Covenant taking place. Followers of Imete and Kerudung were in this group and agreed to help their cause for freedom. The rebels were popular among Morjusak, and the cause quickly spread. Folks often could use a majority of residents’ homes to hide if they needed to. Vatra started his journey here, training how to fight and tagging along on safer missions.
The tide turned when one day the Zanshians uncovered a rebel base that was also the location of a hidden shrine. This particular shrine was dedicated to Sagas and led by Vjera, a friendly old woman who was loved by the entire community. Even some of the garrison guards were friendly with her. She often kept the peace between everyone in town. This night, the garrison commander came down from his home on the Citadel and executed her in the middle of town for everyone to bear witness. This was the declaration of war, and all of Morjusak was united.
War
The Citadel hanging over the region left for a time, leaving the garrison to keep control of the town. The entire town rebelled, and the garrison was destroyed within hours. The guards who surrendered and had a history of being nice to the people were allowed to leave and deliver the message to their superiors not to come back.
Failures & Embarrassments
It was the last fight for the Morjusaks. Their mission was to bring down the Citadel hanging over their city to strike fear into the Zanshian elves, an act that would make them think twice about conquering them again. Vatra and his team infiltrated the Citadel to target the power source that kept the flying city afloat. They had taken heavy losses but completed their task. There was a complication with the navigation controls. The plan was to make the citadel fall into the sea and drown everyone aboard. The controls were stuck in place, and it was aiming for the volcano near Morjusak. Centurion Vitez, commander of the Morjusak legion, betrayed them all. He set the navigation controls and sabotaged them. He claimed it was for the prosperity of their people; he was going to make them immortal. While Vitez ran to the escape platform, the remaining 12 warriors of the legion stayed behind to try to aim the falling citadel away from their home. For Vatra, he was overcome by hate and vengeance; he left his brothers behind to chase down Vitez instead of helping.
The Citadel crashed into the volcano, causing it to erupt. The magic stored in the citadel made the volcano surge with energy, transforming it. The blue fire consumed the town; no one was spared. The soulfire caused the soul to burn away from the body. As the souls of the dead started to escape, the ash started to fall. The ash covered the bodies, preserving them; the process of decaying or burning away halted. The souls of the departed could not move on while their bodies were trapped in a state between life and death. Most became wandering spirits.
As the town Vatra, called home all his life, was burning, the people he cared about were consumed by the ash; he hunted his prey. On the slopes of the volcano, he met Vitez in combat. Vitez, being more experienced in combat, won, leaving Vatra stabbed through the side to be consumed by the ash along with his people.
Wealth & Financial state
Vatra currently has no home and no money, relying on the goodwill of others.
