Bottomless Ocean
The sea is not deep because it has no floor, but because the heavens buried something deep beneath it.The Bottomless Ocean is the grand, unified ocean that covers all of Caelus and is home to its many floating islands, cities, peoples. It is where the great leviathans of nature swim, where pirates haunt, and where underwater civilizations lay hidden. The great sea has always been seen as bottomless, with continental chunks of floor floating above great Seaglass Slime colonies or on the backs of dragon turtles, sea drakes, and other great leviathians. Ships that sink are dragged down into the ever-darkening depths never to be seen again. Most have merely accepted that the ocean has no end, but the truth is far stranger than that.
Ecosystem
All sealife lives in the deep oceans, from the warm watered Maka Maka fish, to the blue-skinned Tyrian Deathwyrms of the far north. The ecosystem teems with life. Besides that, kelp and algae grow down like massive green lattices from the bottoms of continents, while chunks of land float deep in the water on the backs of leviathan, housing whole underwater civilizations.
Climate
The Bottomless ocean is rarely unified in climate.
Immense current systems cycle throughout the globe creating invisible rivers throughout its form. Warm currents originating from the equator carry tropical water and life up towards the poles where it cools. Cool currents take rich mineral water from the poles down the equator. These currents help with the creation of rainfall, storms, fishing, and more.
The immense underwater civilizations who exist utilize these as undersea super highways to cross immense distances quickly and ignore the long travel that normally is required by ships.
History
The world may have forgotten us, but we will never rorget you.Long before the First Ages of man, before the civilization of the Ancient Elves, and before the first dwarves dug — the gods had to make a decision on the lives of the people on their new world.
One faction believed that the races deserved to serve them, arbitrated by divinely blessed kings, queens, and champions of their choosing to carry out their will. Another believed that they should not interfere, as they had given the peoples all they should ever needs, that they may be happier without their intervention. These became known as the Gods of Liberation, or more colloquially The Betrayers or False Gods.
Those who believed in divine right feared that this freedom would allow mortals to stand beside them as equals, to build monuments without needed to kneel before them. Then one such god, Priscilla of Deep Waters, granted the races the understanding of magic — a secret the gods could not take back from them. Angered, those who sought divine right smited their opposition down.
The oceans floors were taken away, and in their place were put great chains forged from the very magic they gave to the mortal races. Placed at immeasurable depths and unseeable by all races, the Gods of Liberation were thrown down and imprisoned deep beneath the waves. To ensure no one could reach them, the gods warped life into great leviathan beasts to guard the betrayers, which still swim today.
