Creature Report
A girl, in the shadows
Her story recorded in prose
Creature Report is a book following the adventures of a young girl who lives inside the old machine. While she is on her way somewhere, she stumbles across a creature who appears near her. The story follows the girl's efforts to befriend the creature and she later learns its secrets.
Publishing Troubles
When the book was first published, the author was using a pen name and the book had a different title. Most of the book's contents were similar, including the idea that there was a girl living among creatures inside the machine. However, it was quickly taken down when the government accused the author of spreading misinformation. Many years later, a new book with similar content was published as a novel, and the author did not reveal their true identity. This book became a best-seller and was one of the most popular books of the time. In fact, it still is quite popular today and has spawned many theories on the true nature of the story.
Theories
I like to imagine some of these are real, but Grapple says we should not confuse fact and fiction.
While the book was popular for the friendship between the girl and the creature, it became famous for another reason: nobody had ever really imagined what kind of creatures lived under the Husk.
People got to work imagining the wide variety of creatures that could exist inside the machine, and how they could possibly survive only surrounded by metal and technology. Some have suggested that they snack on the little saplings that grow inside the machine, while others have suggested that they might not even be biological creatures at all.
There was also the question of how a little girl managed to survive inside the machine. After all, everyone knows that nobody lives under the Husk. Despite these pertinent questions, they did not stop audiences all over the Husk from admiring the girl's bravery and kindness.
The few people who remember the early iteration of the novel have wondered whether the novel is in fact based on a true story. They thought it was too detailed to have just been left up to imagination. Whatever the truth of the story, it seems that the answers won't be coming soon.
