Western Corporate States
As a result of The Collapse, several states within the USA declared independence from the corrupt federal government. Due to the meddling of The Gang of Four the nation was weakened and the military reluctant to obey orders, which made it possible for what became known as the Western Free States to remain.
A tighter cooperation emerged between Idaho, Oregon, and Washington after the Fourth Corporate War; calling itself the Pacifica Confederation. They (specifically Oregon and Washington) made a deal with Biotechnica that allowed for large-scale experiments in exchange for a restoration of their biomes. This became the template for how grand corporate investments would shape the area in the decades to follow. When NUSA president Rosalind Myers was elected and the Unification War started, the Pacifica Confederation states did their best to stay out of it. Even supporting other free states would have come with a significant risk to ongoing projects. When the Arvin Accords were signed to end the war, the states reconstituted themselves as the Western Corporate States.
If you as a WCS patriot what makes the newly formed nation great, it's that they're a true meritocracy. People with more useful skills and better degrees have extended rights, whereas those who fail to provide can be pushed aside to make room for greatness. As of 2075, there's talk about closing the borders to anyone who can't show their long-term worth. Of course, some critics might point out that being able to have the resources to show usefulness requires privilege.
