Panam Palmer
Like most Aldecaldos, Panam grew up on the road along the rest of her clan. Home isn't a place; it's the family around her and she wouldn't want it any other way.
Being a nomad means being free to take any job you choose and rule the open roads. This is a view she shares with most of her clan, but there have been increasingly loud voices to either take on more permanent jobs for a corp, or join Snake Nation for a more structured way of life. One such voice is the current leader of the clan: Saul Bright. He led his current group to Northern California and Panam expected them to take on hauls for either the free states or the NUSA into the other territory. Instead, Saul has been looking for contracts with various megacorps.
At this point, Panam would prefer to strike out on her own, clan be damned, over becoming a corporate dupe or stuck tilling fields. Night City is nearby, and she's sure there are fixers there who would appreciate a nomad's ability to move cargo or deal with like in the badlands. Getting in touch with Rogue Amendiares would be a start.
That said, she's not about to abandon her clan. She will always be an Aldecaldo at heart. Her closest friends, such as Mitch Anderson and Scorpion, are part of the group and her loyalties will always be with the family. But she's not prepared to stick around to see the decline of the Aldecaldos.
Personal History
When she was young, Panam and her then best friend were kidnapped by Raffen Shiv. They were saved by another member of the clan, Cassity Righter, and it has shaped how she sees both loyalty within the group and how to deal with outsiders. She will joke around with those she trusts, and still haven't lived down throwing up from the stench at a synth-meat farm when loading cargo — but the family is everything. She would die rather than abandon any one of them if they're in need. And she trusts all of them to have her back in return.
This loyalty is ultimately what has caused her rift with Saul. To her, the clan is something you fight for, but to him it's who you provide for. Panam doesn't want to be provided for, nor does she think the rest of the clan should. Everyone, including her, should be expected to reach for every scrap of possibility. And that's certainly more than a deal with a megacorp like Biotechnica could possibly give them.
