"Cold. Snow everywhere. The front desk clerk at the hotel was super rude and wouldn't give me a refund. How the hell was I supposed to know that winters got this bad?!"
Samir's smile grows into a manic grin while Eve recites the negative reviews for a resort on Mother Island.
"Uh... Sami, are you alright?"
The vast majority of the planet of Kivria is taken up by vast oceans, interspersed with islands and only two notable continents. Archipelagos abound, but the Yor Archipelago is one of the most famous in the world. The city of Yor Lektem is situation on the second largest of this island chain, about as far south and as close to the mainland as the islands could possibly get.
The Yor Archipelago is located in the far north. While the city of Yor Lektem pulls in the vast majority of its tourism dollars, the arctic landscape to the north is regarded as a rare beauty that everyone should visit at least once in their life.
There are many myths and legends surrounding the archipelago. Each culture found within its boundaries has a different story, even if it is only the slightest bit. In the culture which dominates the relevant region in which Yor Lektem belongs, each of the islands are named after familial terms in the local language. Every native of Yor Lektem knows the entire family tree of their island chain by heart, since these myths were recounted to them since birth.
Every island holds the spirit of a God within it, who locked themselves in the islands in order to support their mortal children. The Father Island, the home of Yor Lektem, locked himself away first, following by his children. The Mother Island locked herself away last once she was sure all of her family were safe; hers is the largest and furthest north, protecting the rest of the region from the coldest of the waters and winds.
"How was your trip?" Eve asks.
"It was so fucking cold!" Samir reports, smiling from ear to ear. "I think I've found home!"
