Serenity

Serenity was built after The War of Ash and Radiance, when the six kingdoms first formed the Lumeris Alliance. The alliance needed a central place to operate from, a city that could serve as both a political heart and a symbol of unity. It was also meant to centralize power so the kingdoms could stand together as a strong, united front against the Dominion of Drakmor.   At the time of its founding, Serenity was one of a kind. Since then, it has grown into a grand city of unity, hope, love, and shared culture. It has been constructed, defended, and expanded by all six kingdoms and their people. Every species has left its mark on the city, making Serenity a living symbol of cooperation.   Today, Serenity stands as the heart of Lumeris and one of its strongest named forces against the Dominion. It is a place where people come to live, grow, work, and build a shared future together.   Because so many different architectural styles exist within the city, one rule has remained constant since its founding: the outside of each building must be painted or finished in a light color. This tradition is meant to provide hope, brightness, and a sense of welcome to everyone who sees the city.

Government

Political Tension
As the capital of Lumeris, Serenity is home to many delegates from the allied kingdoms and protected lands within Lumeris territory. Because of this, political tension is common.   Rivalries, disagreements, and competing interests often arise between noble houses, kingdom representatives, merchants, military leaders, and local officials. The High King and his delegates work hard to act as peacemakers, keeping debates fair and maintaining trust between the different groups. Most people respect the system and agree to the alliance’s rules, but that does not mean everyone thinks the same way.   Different kingdoms and houses often have different priorities, traditions, and views of what Lumeris should become. Some noble houses feud endlessly with one another, while others may involve themselves in shady dealings to gain more power or influence.   Because of this, the High King and his delegates must constantly manage disputes, expose corruption, and prevent small rivalries from growing into larger threats. Serenity may be a city of hope, but its politics are far from simple.

Industry & Trade

As the capital of the alliance, Serenity has become one of the most important centers of trade, commerce, and cooperation in Lumeris.   When the outer city began to develop, businesses from across the allied kingdoms flocked to Serenity. Merchants, craftsmen, guilds, and traders all wanted a place within the city because it gave them access to many different peoples, cultures, and trade networks.   Because Serenity serves as the capital, it has access to industries and trade routes from across the kingdoms and their allies. This has allowed the city’s businesses and craftsmen to grow rapidly. Different species and kingdoms have shared techniques, materials, and skills, leading to major improvements in local industry.   Over the years, Serenity has become one of the leading examples of what cooperation between kingdoms can accomplish. Many businessmen, traders, and craftsmen look to Serenity as a model for successful commerce and cultural exchange.

Districts

Serenity can be divided into three major parts.   The Inner City   The original part of Serenity was built around the castle, noble estates, alliance housing, and important working buildings. These structures were designed with a mixture of architectural styles from the six founding kingdoms. While each kingdom brought its own traditions and building methods, all of them followed the same requirement: the city had to appear light, bright, and hopeful.   This inner district became the symbol of the alliance’s hope and rebellion during the struggle against the Dominion of Drakmor.   The Kingdom Districts   As the war continued and Serenity grew, each of the original six kingdoms built its own area around the original castle district. These sections allowed their people to live, work, and maintain part of their kingdom’s identity within the alliance capital.   Each district reflects the culture, architecture, and values of the kingdom that founded it. Over time, these areas became important centers of trade, craft, politics, and community life.   The Outer City   As Serenity continued to expand, the outer areas became more mixed. Unlike the more distinct kingdom districts, the outer city is a blend of all cultures and species. It is where most common folk live, work, and gather.   The outer city has become one of the most active and diverse parts of Serenity. Markets, homes, workshops, inns, and public spaces all exist side by side, creating a lively mixture of traditions and everyday life.
Cultural Tension
Although Serenity has survived for several hundred years, cultural tension still exists within the city. This is especially true when people move or transfer into Serenity from another kingdom.   The Kingdom Districts often hold strong pride in their original identities. Many families and communities there still see themselves as representatives of one of the six founding kingdoms. Because of this, outsiders may sometimes be treated with suspicion or given a hard time, especially if they do not understand the customs or traditions of that district.   Even though Serenity was built on hope, unity, and belonging, disagreements still happen. Different cultures do not always understand each other easily, and old habits can be difficult to let go of. These tensions rarely break the city’s foundation, but they do remind people that unity takes constant effort.
Class Tension
Tension also exists between the Outer City and the Kingdom Districts.   Many people in the Outer City see the Kingdom Districts as proud, old-fashioned, and somewhat high and mighty. Since the Kingdom Districts are closer to the Inner City, where the High King and major alliance officials operate, they are often viewed as having more influence and privilege.   In return, many people in the Kingdom Districts believe they hold a higher status because they descend from, or represent, one of the six original founding kingdoms. Nobles, successful merchants, and wealthy families often live in these districts, which adds to the sense of superiority. Some look down on the Outer City as rougher, less refined, or filled with common rabble.   This divide has created an ongoing class problem within Serenity. While the city presents itself as a symbol of unity, daily life still shows differences in wealth, influence, and respect.

Geography

Serenity was built in a carefully chosen location between four of the allied kingdoms. It is close enough to the warfront to be useful as a base of operations, but far enough away to remain protected.   The city rests on a wide grassland near the mountains. To the east lies a large pond connected to a nearby river. This gives the city natural beauty, fresh water, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The surrounding landscape also provides a sense of protection, with open fields, flowing water, and mountain winds shaping the region.

Climate

Serenity has a mostly warm and pleasant climate. For much of the year, the city enjoys blooming flowers, swimmable ponds and rivers, and comfortable weather.   Summers are warm, with temperatures reaching up to around 85 degrees. However, the heat remains manageable because of the steady winds that come through the region. Rainfall is fairly consistent throughout the year, keeping the grasslands healthy and the surrounding land fertile.   Winters are colder, especially when winds come down from the nearby mountains. Snow does fall, but it is usually light, with most winters bringing around three to five inches at a time. Despite the colder season, Serenity remains a bright and lively city throughout the year.
