Crystal Mite Thread
Properties
Material Characteristics
A thin, gossamer thread that is surprisingly sticky to the touch, making it difficult for all but the master spinsters to work with.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Despite it's rather delicate appearance, Crystal Mite Thread has the tensile strength of chain mail.
Origin & Source
The thread is naturally produced by Crystal Mites after they have eaten a quantity of Crystal shards. They are then carefully gathered by trained professionals so they can be woven into proper thread, and from there fabric and garments.
History & Usage
Refinement
The natural threads need to be carefully spun into a usable thread, using a solution of oils and pollen to remove the sticky texture as it is spun.
Manufacturing & Products
Once spun into proper thread, fabric and garments are woven, making for a stylish and effective means of protecting oneself.
Byproducts & Sideproducts
The solution mixes with the sticky properties of the threads and creates a form of goo that has been found to be useful as a sealant, especially in Crystech creations. Traders have taken to smearing the goo onto bandages and selling them by the roll as "tape".
Distribution
Trade & Market
Given that even now, in the age of Crystech, Crystal Mite Thread needs to be spun by hand, it is considered a luxury item. High-end merchants whose customers are typically of the nobility are the ones to sell garments made of the thread, in one of the larger cities of Ostrium.
Storage
The threads, before having the solution applied to them and woven into string, need to be kept in a relatively moist environment, to ensure they do not break apart upon coming into contact with the solution. After the spinning process is complete, it can be stored the same as any other piece of fabric.
