The Wandering

The Wandering is a mythic story told throughout the southeastern part of Jiazera. It is a tale of love, loyalty, and perseverance. Over the years, there have been many copies and retellings of the Wandering. Here is the main part of the story.

Caydshem Andker was the king of the island nation called Kirkden. He had a wife named Sarasha, and two children, a boy, Tatabdi, and a daughter, Aylisad. When his children were little, he was pulled away from home and into an 8-year war called the Blire Conflict. Which is another mythic tale. At the end of the Blire Conflict, is where the Wandering begins. As Caydshem heads home, he and his men meet a sorceress named Nelo. She knew and loved Caydshem, but he did not know her. She puts many different conflicts to stall Caydshem. Making it the trip which should have only taken a year at max, take 4. However, he works through each one and was very close to home when Nelo sent her daughter, Lilton, with an elixir. Lilton mixes the elixir into all the drinks, which causes all who drink it to lose their memories. So Cayshem and his men all forget and end up wandering for almost 4 years. Even during his memory loss, Cayshem remained loyal to his wife, even when he didn’t know who she was.

Meanwhile, back in Kirkden, a guy named Kragirat, along with several other men, showed up a year after the end of the Blire Conflict in an attempt to seduce Sarasha, marry her, and take over the kingdom. Sarash at first would not declare Caydshem dead, so no matter what the suiters wanted, nothing happened. That is, until year 7 after the Blire Conflict, that is when Kragirat made an ultimatum saying that Sarasha should remarry by the end of that year. Sarasha continued to stall by saying that she would first have to make a new veil for the wedding. What Kragirat and other suitors didn’t know was that she would work on it, then remove over half of the progress she had made in the evening. Always giving the excuse that it wasn’t done right. While this was going on, Kragirat was plotting what he would do when he was finally king, which was to kill or get rid of Tatabdi and Aylisad. Kragirat was also just eating what ever food was there, ordering servants around, being very rude, and just a nuisance. However, Kragirat successfully seduced one of Sarasha’s handmaidens, who told him what Sarasha was doing. Kragirat demanded that Sarasha speak to him. She refused for three days until one of the servants, loyal to Caydshem and Sarasha, told her that Kragirat had threatened Aylisad. Sarasha appeared in the great hall where Kragirat and others were gathered. Kragirat called her out and said that she needs to choose now. Sarasha said she would after a test. She pulled out a sword that had been handed down to each previous Kirkden king. The one who could unsheathe this sword and cut cleanly through eight stones would be her husband. Once that was said, she placed the sword down and then left. Kragirat and all but one of the suitors tried but failed. That’s when Kragirat started to rile up the others into just taking over. Eight men refused to help and, in fact, stood up to help protect Sarasha when there were sounds of a sword being unsheathed. Followed by a quick, clean cut through the eight rocks that had been sitting there. Caydshem stood there, glaring at those who dared to hurt his family. The next part of the story has many different tales. Some say that Kragirat was killed along with those who helped or agreed with him. In others, it was said that Kragirat was the only one killed, and the others were punished. However, in all, there is a reunion of Caydshem and Sarasha, who were said to be the longest reigning king and queen of Kirkden, with several children. Another part of the story that has many variations is how Caydshem regained his memory. Even with all the variations the Wandering is still the most famous love story on Jiazera. In fact here are sayings that have come from it the most common is between lovers which say, ‘You are my Caydshem/Sarasha.'
