Emissaries

The, quite justifiably so, feared enforcers of the Mesitori the Emissaries are one of their deadliest weapons, wielding arcane technology and gifted with abilities that make them formidable foes and brutal overseers to the humans under Mesitorian dominion. When the Mesitori deign to communicate with outsiders it is the Emissaries they will send, and they will speak with the fullest authority of their masters.

Appearance

The Emissaries are for the most identical; tall, around seven feet, and clad in heavy black or red hooded robes, the red usually meaning the Emissary is a more senior one. Their overall shape and elongated limbs make them rather disquieting figures. Their faces are hidden beneath grotesque masks with large glowing eyes and mouth pieces that distort the voice of the speaker and can amplify in various ways, as well as weaponize it in a sonic attack. Their bodies are hidden beneath the robes and the black body suits and ornate armour they wear, though their forearms are always bare, the skin pale with an almost blue or green tone to it. They will always have upon their dominant hand an ornate gauntlet which is used to house the technology required to control the Nanite Phage all subjects of the Mesitori are infected with.

Equipment

As stated, their masks allow the Emissaries to weaponize their voices, projecting ear-drum shattering booms or sonic blasts that rupture or liquify organs and break bones. Their masks also aid in detecting whether or not a subject is lying, a useful tool when rooting out dissent amongst the human herds. The gauntlets they wear are the primary means of activating and controlling the nanites within the human subjects of the Mesitori, granting them the ability to activate the tiny machines to inflict punishment and death, or to trigger the berserker state as well as the horrific fusion of multiple humans into one nightmarish abomination. Their armour provides considerable protection whilst their cloaks, as well providing an imposing silhouette, are also impervious to small arms fire and as well protection from fire.

Abilities

On top of their equipment, the Emissaries are also gifted with numerous abilities that involve body-morphing. Their bare forearms can extend well beyond their normal length and from their fingers they can form long and wickedly sharp talons which can rend steel as easily as soft flesh and bone. From their palms they can extrude a grotesque organ that can spit a corrosive fluid or shoot a distressingly organic projectile that will bore its way through armour and clothing to dig into the flesh within.

On the rare times that an Emissary has been wounded, their bodies are quick to regenerate, and they are able to reattach severed limbs with casual ease. One was reportedly beheaded, only for the head to scuttle back onto the body with grasping tendrils and return to the severed stump.

In short, an Emissary is an incredible dangerous foe even without its equipment.

What Are They?

The question of what the Emissaries are is one that the humans who toil in service to the Mesitori do not ask, but outsiders are greatly interested in. Are they altered humans, or perhaps they are biological creations spawned from the dark depths of the Mesitorian mind. Whatever their origins, they are utterly devoted to their Mesitorian masters and serve as a potent reminder to the loyal humans, and others, of their divine right to rule.
