Koi Salamander

A sub-type of Salamanders hailing from near the galactic core, Koi Salamanders are tall and thin, with smooth, flowing facial features. Their muzzles are long and narrow, with small teeth, and they have large, translucent ear-fins that droop down past their shoulders. Their scales are mostly white, silver, cream, or light grey, with colourful patches of dark greys, browns, blacks, reds, oranges, or golden yellows spread over their bodies. The shapes, sizes, and colours of these patches are unique, and can be used to identify individual Koi.

Major language groups and dialects

Koi Salamanders speak exclusively Auld Anglican, and are too proud to learn any others.

Art & Architecture

Architectural styles differ slightly between each clan, and from world to world depending on the availability of raw resources, but the overall style is consistent, with tall, tiered structures with sloping roofs that seem to flow like water. Serpent-like dragons are a frequent motif, sculptures of them are frequently placed on the edges of roofs, and are either plated with gold or painted in clan colours.   Paints for both artwork and buildings are typically thick and oil based to prevent water damage.   Koi designed Space vessels are sleek and elegant, civilian vessels resemble ornamental fish, brightly painted with long, sweeping fins, while naval vessels resemble rays and sharks, menacing with shades of grey and blue.

Funerary and Memorial customs

Heroes, along with warriors and starship crews who are felled in battle are traditionally "buried in the Great Ocean", which involves jettisoning the deceased out the airlock in a coffin. The names of the fallen are engraved on memorials at their places of origin.
