Iguana Salamander
A sub-type of Salamanders hailing from the outer Perseus Arm, Iguana Salamanders are roughly human in size and solidly built., with rough, angular facial features. Their muzzles are short and wide, with very large teeth. They have short, bony, and opaque ear-fins that only protrude a few inches from their skulls. They usually have a two-toned colour pattern, with one colour for the majority of their body, with a second colour for their stomach, chest, throat, chin, fins, and the underside of their tails. These two colours can be pretty much anything, though reds, greens, blues and greys are the most common colours.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Dreki primarily speak in their own, unique language, seemingly a mix of Dvorfum, Fjyvolken, and some ancient Terran language. In addition, most speak Auld Anglican and LEPI.
Art & Architecture
Dreki buildings are typically built long, narrow, and low, with one or two stories, with a steeply angled roof. The exterior walls are often decorated with wood, and the roofs with native plant life, where available. Fabric banners are frequently hung from underneath windows and flanking doors.
Dreki designed vessels are long and narrow, often with a dragon head constructed into the bow. Vessels are painted dark colours, including black, grey, blue, and purple. In addition to conventional propulsion, Dreki vessels have enormous folding solar sails, painted in bright colours.
Coming of Age Rites
Often when a male comes of age, they take part in a Great Hunt, where a group of hunters tracks and takes down a large predator beast. Sometimes the beast is native to that world, sometimes it is artificially gene-modded.
Funerary and Memorial customs
Heroes, along with warriors and starship crews who are felled in battle are traditionally "buried at sea", which involves cremating the deceased with a burning wooden raft or boat on a small lake or river. The participants then raise a toast to the fallen with song and alcohol.
