Orbis van Durge

"My knowledge is not a weapon, Master Navarel, and my research shall not be used to exploit the people of my own kingdom--our kingdom. I cannot help you with that, for which my father and my brother entice you with their 'patronage.'"

Biography

A virtuous, unbiased, renowned history professor and healer at Mage's Guild of Mauveria, who specializes in the magical department of world history from historical events to exotic cultures to the workings and the usage of past magical technologies with lessons on real-life virtues that can be extracted from them. He was born to Chari van Durge, the former wife of King Cainomos, from whom he inherited his gift of healing which allows him to affect one that is willing or vulnerable and in his arm's range with certain curing magic with a single touch, without effort. His natural talent with healing has given him an unwanted job of a healer in the guild since he was young, but it has also given him many an opportunity to meet a scholar and make ties throughout his childhood, which gave him a head start over his nasty half-brother Zarvis when they became apprentices in the guild, and he has been able to embrace the burden as he grew older.

Backstory

He loves to explore the wild, and for a long time until he became a full-time professor, he would often join an expedition led by Erima Hazbrind, an ecologist professor. This gave him enough experience to organize and lead his own team as a historian professor into uncharted locations of various parts of the Material Plane.

"...Money? No problem."

Despite the enormous costs of his expeditions, he has been able to fund precisely all of them from either his own pocket or his scholastic ties which he has made over the years, thanks to his noble upbringing, very much contrary to Erima who would frequently complain about a lack of funds. Seeing it unfair, now he always offers to take Erima's team with him or to join hers whenever their paths cross, which usually do as their fields of study are closely related to each other, and either one's research could benefit from the other's. Indeed, this was a very good idea as both of them are able to include fascinating, unique insight into the subjects of their own publications from different angles, which they are also able to discuss right as they travel, and as a result, the two have become renowned amongst the intelligent people of academia wherever their information is published. From this unintended outcome, he considers Erima as a blessing.
