Sorana

The Sorana family are the reformed company previously known as the Laris family, who were one of the main investors in Typhon. What is forgotten about the Sorana family is how risky their investments were and how long their laundry list of scandals is. They have links to a mysterious group called the Wolves of Soranos, who left behind religious artifacts but nothing else, and might have links to the Red Hoods if The Girl and the Grim journal is to believed.

It's possible the Wolves of Soranos helped them with their change of image, or that they consulted something to do with them via the Red Hoods. What is known is that the Sorana family (then, the Laris family) were foundational in constructing Typhon, were there to celebrate its peak, and changed their name two generations before the Salt Leak.

When Typhon flooded, it was blamed on the Laris family in many circles, something the Sorana family had an active part in distancing themselves from. Laris became a catch-all last name of the "defuncts" that are given to unsponsored folks depending on certain circumstances. Only the ones who want to learn things the hard ways will ever pick Laris.

The Sorana family is still living through. They did not disappear with Typhon. Instead, knowing the other families would reject them for what they knew, they turned themselves into LUNED and handed over all of the secrets of Penumbria that were left to them.

Now, the Sorana family are the ruling elite. These architects of destruction are everywhere, still teaching their ways, still betting large on experiments, spies, and efforts to expand their presence beyond the Briar Wall. Soon they'll get bored with Penumbria and try to get that infernal Hydra out of the way, so they can go deeper into the cave systems beneath Arkadia's surface and find their way to the South Pole, where they can use their knowledge to colonize it before the Red Hoods get there.
