Afallon Fields

Afallon Fields is one of the open air parks in SATRES.

What's the name of your building? Why?

Afallon Fields is the largest open air park in SATRES, being government property and used for special events and an open air respite for workers. It is named after the apple trees which grow there in honor of the nymph Blodeuwedd, consort of Turmes Lug and progenitor of meadows.

How does this building look and feel?

  • This is where the first school for children was built and has since become a prestigious academy
  • Nothing new is allowed to be planted there, only things which grew when the ancestors lived there (the Red Hoods, who have since been displaced from it but still try to keep it up). Mainly the edible fruits are apples and alpine strawberries which grow on the large and encompassing burial mounds
  • Yorkshire fog grows there, there are ponds and swamps but the water is NOT drinkable and is actually not water, it's some kind of silica thing that humans can't digest - possibly a mirror life.
  • There are certain trees that are very unsafe to go around if you were not born on the Reflection.

Purpose / Function

  • Events
  • Government property
  • Respite from poor living conditions
  • Park, Recreation
  • A piece of cultivated wilderness

Alterations

Several new buildings have been added in Afallon Fields since it was established as public space and open air park. Although it is supposed to be public, not private, property, some private estates have been founded. Typically these are on top of old ruins.

An underground "mirror room" has also been built, which uses mirrors to make the environment feel like you're outside.

Architecture

Afallon Fields is much larger than it appears to be, with its biodome environment giving a false sense of insularity. Due to the fields being built on numerous previous structures including burial grounds, a landfill, and several abandoned towns, the park itself seems to go on.

History

Afallon Fields is actually part of the broader Afallon Fields Mall, which is the overarching (artificial) bio region for all "open air" Antumbrian areas. Like the tunnels of Umbria, most of Antumbria is connected this way. Many of the ways to venture beyond the marked "safe" area for Afallon Fields have since been blocked off, but people are always finding ways.

Tourism

Afallon Fields is a big tourist destination. The Arkadians believe that it is a mythical and sacred site, and often make pilgrimages there. Umbrians like to use it as a camping destination, and it is also home to a hospital/rehabilitation centre.
