Three Brothers

Long ago, along the banks of the Chessabit, stood three hills, and atop each of the hills lived a brother.

The eldest brother fished in the river and shared his catch at the end of every day.
The youngest farmed in the fields and shared his yield at the end of every day.
The last one did not fish or farm; instead, he watched their homes.

One day, the eldest brother spoke to the youngest:
"All day we break our backs tending the fields and netting for fish, but our brother gets his share for free."
The youngest responded:
"It is true, dear elder; our brother can laze around all day, merely tending to his blade, yet we are expected to support him too."

The younger and the elder decided that night to withhold all manner from the last brother. From food to drink, to even wood for his fire.

[The rest of the original source is lost, but the story is commonly retold in the Holy Empire of Cessareka with the following ending.]

But even then, the last brother remained vigilant over their homes, watching for whatever foulness may fall upon them.

Then, when a great beast emerged from the depths of the world, the last brother slew it with his carefully honed blade and talent.

His brothers fell to their knees begging for his forgiveness, but he merely asked for them to continue as they always had, for their kinship was enough.
