Stoneheart Fever

Stoneheart Fever was an incredibly deadly disease that is most well known for eradicating much of the early Theronan population in the Northlands of Beogar. It is usually lethal, killing its victims by causing extensive clotting and thickening of the blood within the hearts and arteries at an exponentially increasing rate. The lucky ones die by cardiac arrest or a similar affliction by it, while the unlucky ones experience thickening of the blood so rapidly that their hearts and arteries burst, killing them in an incredibly painful and gruesome manner.

Transmission & Vectors

It is unknown exactly how many manners in which the fever spreads, but it has been confirmed to be able to travel through bodily fluids, water, and food. It is thought to also be transmitted through contact as well, but this has not been confirmed in any way.

Symptoms

Symptoms of Stoneheart Fever include widely fluctuating fevers, sudden bouts of highly fluctuating levels of energy, excessive bleeding, and bloodshot eyes

Treatment

The most common treatment for this malady is regular bloodletting for two weeks after the patient has stopped displaying any symptoms. Every bloodletting after the symptoms have disappeared must be of a decreasing amount, with the patient drinking large amounts of water. It can be magically cured, but the process is very difficult and expensive since a simple Lesser Restoration is unable to cure it.

Prognosis

The most likely outcome of the disease is death. This outcome is practically guaranteed if the patient has not received treatment within the first three days of the development of symptoms. After a week of displaying symptoms, even Greater Restoration experiences difficulty curing the patient.

Prevention

There is no known method of prevention for Stoneheart Fever. Fortunately, the disease is exceedingly rare save the outbreak within the Theronan population in early history.
