Xia IX
Overview
Xia IX started as a small independent mining operation, but quickly boomed in size as large deposits of copper were discovered. In only a few generations, it had become the galaxy’s leading supplier of copper.
As the copper mining industry expanded, Xia IX also became an important center of scientific research. Geological studies suggested favorable conditions for Uranium deposits to be discovered, which encouraged the development of further research on the planet's geology.
Colonization and Development
Xia IX was first colonized in 4423 AD by an independent mining voyage. The first Xia IX colony consisted of 40 personnel. In the following year, several other small mining teams arrived on the planet.
By 4443 AD, the copper industry was well established on the planet and had begun to turn a profit, run in majority by independent businesses. The profitability of these ventures attracted the attention of larger corporations. Stetler Corp. began quietly buying up the smaller mining operations on the planet.
Once Stetler. Corp had a large enough presence on the planet, they began sending their own missions to further expand their control of the planet. Once Stetler was involved, the copper mining industry experienced a major boom, quickly becoming one of the leading producers of copper by 4520 AD.
Rising Political Tensions
The quick influx of wealth and industry on the planet attracted the attention of other corporations who sought to exploit the planet for its lack of regulation. This hostile corporate takeover quickly caused a rise in class conflict between the blue collar workers and the upper class who had reaped most of the benefits from the sudden burst of commerce.
The "XIA IX Incident"
Reportedly, Andromechs had arrived on Xia IX seeking to aid in the development of the planet. Within a few years of the Andromechs' arrival, political tensions came to an all-time high, and there was an "incident" in 4548 AD which resulted in most of the planet's population being wiped out. The circumstances surrounding this "incident" are still unknown, and many blame it on the Andromechs.
