Tiefling

Tieflings are not trusted, though they may be found nearly anywhere in the world. Tieflings are generally born to other Tieflings but can be born from nearly any species. This is for whatever reason usually humans, ocasionally elves or half-elves, rarely anything else. Though a herengon Tiefling was discovered just this decade, the first on record. It is said that the ancient Tieflings were created by ancient sin back when devils could walk the world as easily as gods. There has never been a Tiefling kingdom or nation but there have been notable Tiefling families throughout history though they have all been purged at one time or another. Sometimes by the church, sometimes by their nieghbors. Many noble families have clauses in the family charter to disinherit Tieflings.
It is still unclear if Tieflings have any inherent evil tendancies occording to the Order of Mizzet. Most Tieflings are treated with scorn and distrust, this leads to many of them to seek to fulfill the stereortype and others as naturally jaded due to traumatic childhoods and shitty upbringing. Good Tieflings do exists as a matter of record but they are small minority, most either due to their infernal linieage or their upbringing are neutral or evil. Generally those who worship God are extra prejudiced against Tieflings, many were killed during the dwarven occupation of Alberon.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Tiefling appearances very widely. It is believed that Tieflings can be born from any species, though they mostly seem to come from other Tieflings these days. As such their anatomy can very based on their parent species. A Tiefling with elven heritage will have pointy ears, a Tiefling born of leonin will have fur and a mane. But there are a few things that stretch across all Tieflings. First is their eyes which are always a solid color, no iris or pupil, most commonly black, red, white, silver, or gold. Then there is the horns, different Tieflings have different types of horns, though Tieflings will often have similar horns to their parents. Some are ram-like others are similar to a goat or antelope, a very few of them are similar to antlers, so far only discovered amoung tieflings with fey heritage such as herengon. They are also recognizable by their coloration, in their skin or fur. Most Tieflings are some shade of red or violet, but seem to apear in lesser numbers with nearly any color of skin. All Tieflings also have a tail, most of the time the tail is proportional to the body and largely vestigial or used for balance, though some bloodlines of Tieflings have spiked tails, thin tails, or a tail otherwise distinct and reminisscent of a certain devil or type of devil.

Genetics and Reproduction

Tieflings are known to most frequently known for mating with humans and elves, when they do so all the children are Tieflings. Tieflings that have children with halflings and gnome produce short Tieflings.

Growth Rate & Stages

Tiefling generally age and mature at the same rate as their parent species. If a Tiefling is born of humans, orcs, or other shorter lived races they typically live to be around a century old, otherwise Tieflings fall to old age at the same ages as their parent species.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Tiefling names fall into three broad categories. Tieflings born from another species or culture typically have names reflective of that culture. Some have names derived from the infernal language passed down through generations, and reflect their fiendish heritage. And some younger tieflings striving to find a place in the world, adopt a name that signifies a virtue, sin, character trait, or other concept and then try to embody that concept. For some, the chosen name is a quest. For others, its a grim destiny.
