Vlockvaren
When the length of the days shorten and the first snow begins to fall. The eyes of the children begin to twinkle. But they have to way. Looking out of the window, hoping for a thick fresh layer of snow. When that day has come everyone gathers at the nearest hill or slope. Bringing their wooden bowl, called a slede, carved carefully from the hardest oak tree they could find.
The event where classes mix, things are left to for what they are. Only jolly joy
Social status
Though a bowl is the most common and populair shape, the slede comes in many forms and shapes. A bowl gives you the opportunity to spin in circles when going down the slope, this comes at a cost of stability. Other populair shapes are the boat, where you carve out a cilinder cut perpendiculair, raising the front of the boat. This gives the rider speed and stability.
While these two variants are the most common. You really can't imagine anything too crazy. Some take a piece of tree bark, while others make or order a custom slede.
The slede is also used to brag about your social status. Where common folk only can afford to rent, share of make a simple slede. The more wealthier folk will order custom made sledes. Their are three to four classes where one could belong to:
The Elite: The most wealthy and privileged people have the most beautiful sledes. Inlaid with gold and silver. Symbols of their family or coat of arms. Those Sledes are really a work of art which tells stories about their family and history.
The Affluent: The sledes of this class are made of wood with added decorations. There is no story here, mostly symbols that reflect part of their culture. A common animal, figures or patterns are carved into the wood.
The Common: Most people belong to this class, they can afford or make their own slede. No decorations or other special details are added to the slede. A few have their name carved to show ownership.
The Poor: The elite does not even recognize this class. These people have to rent or share a slede. Or find a piece of wood or treebark to attent vlockvaren.
