Selkies

Sea-dwelling faerie creature that lives in the natural world, taking the forms of many various creatures, including sealions, mermaids, manatees, horses, seahorses, sea dragons, crocodiles, and bipedal women.
Almost always on the coast, Selkies are known to lurk and haunt single areas, sometimes coming ashore to take a spouse and live on land for a time. The call of the sea always rings in their ears, but the older ones are good at resisting for a time. Most find somewhere else to lurk after losing a chosen spouse.

Some have been known to drown people, calling them with a siren's song or asking for help, then taking them out into the water.

Usually abide by local cultures and languages, not a pronounced one on their own as they are often solitary creatures. Occasionally a parent will travel with their children, but rarely do they keep selkie mates for very long.
