Ogres

Ogres are natural creatures that dwell in forests, swamps, or mountains across the world. They live solitarily, eat primarily meat, and breed once every ten years. They're nearly guaranteed a success--ovulation continues until conception takes place at the ten year mark. Gestation takes a year, walking takes a year, enough maturity to leave Mother happens in five years. An ogre matures within seven years, and is usually alive for about a hundred years.

They are about as smart as a low-end-of-average human, capable of creativity and resourcefulness when given call for it. They try not to call for it, preferring mudbaths and naps instead. They eat raw meat, mostly, but they are not above foraging for roots, vegetation, or fungi.

They can be killed by violence, but it takes a LOT. Ogres often have a protective layer of mud on their bodies, and their plant-like hair allows camouflage in their natural environments.

The range of sizes and colorings vary from locale to locale, and frequently depend on where an ogre is given to live.
Ogres have a sub-aural sound they can make through their feet. This gives people nearby a subconscious feeling of dread or fear, and is frequently the source of rumors of haunting. They use it to communicate with each other, especially during mating seasons and to warn of threats.

Most live somewhere dark and dank, most keep collections of trophies, tools, and clutter of interest from raids or finds.
