Goblins

Small, round-headed, big-eared and tiny-nosed (usually), goblins are known to be dangerous in groups but not to be underestimated. They're usually pretty clever problem-solvers, and they're good opportunists. They enjoy hoarding things that others might throw away, and they're not that great at appraising valuables, but they're great at using and recycling things. If you ever need to know what a magic item does, you can probably get a goblin to figure it out.
Most pockets of goblins on most landmasses where you find them got that way virtually the same way--hitching a ride along with whoever was going there and then finding a good place to dig in and put their feet down.
Goblin hovels are famously interesting, and easy to mistake for dirty and trashy. In fact, their rebuilding and restructuring is simply more effective than neat. The artforms that go into designing the aesthetics are a definitively set difference between regions and clans.
Urban goblins can be found and tend to fit themselves in with halfling societies where alllowed, sharing a common leeriness of the big people and usually having enough in common to work their lifestyles around the cultures of the cities they inhabit. Plus, the counter's the right height on this side of town.
