Elkar
A rough-sounding language born in Elsee. Spread most predominantly by Orcs, Giants, and Minotaurs throughout the mountains, bled down through the rest of the continent.
Writing System
Came well after the language itself, features lots of slashing looking marks and curves, calligraphy is considered an art
Geographical Distribution
Spoken mostly in the Blackhall Mountains of Elsee, originating with orcs and spreading to trolls, giants, dwarves, kobolds, which spread it to everything else. I think it was the humans and maybe dwarves that carried it over to Noress.
Phonology
Rough throaty sounds, not much with front of mouth or teeth, vocal tones are usually flat and choppy, and most vowel sounds are "swallowed" in the back of the mouth
Morphology
Affixes are uncommon and are mostly used to indicate relativity to time or distance
Syntax
Verb Object Subject, frequently dropping off the subject entirely
Phonetics
Vowels are strung together more than consonants, and single-syllable words are prone to being vowel-first and a single percussive sound
Tenses
Generally present tense, except stories which have a tense of their own that refers not to the past, necessarily, but to an alternate (think past-perfect)
Sentence Structure
VOS, can often be abbreviated by removing subject entirely and using gestures or body language instead
Adjective Order
Adjective then noun, adverb then verb
