Vyndikai
Hailing from the floating isles of Veyos, the bird-like Vyndikai are one of the most mysterious inhabitants of Altera. While not often seen beyond their windswept homeland, their mastery over navigating the far flung fragments of Altera and their dedication to maintaining balance ensures that they remain an influential force within the world.
Basic Information
Anatomy
All Vyndikai resemble humanoid birds, with two legs ending in three toed, taloned feet, two winged arms ending in five fingered, taloned hands, a feathered tail, and a bird-like face. Additionally, like all other inhabitants of Altera, the Vyndikai are further divided into "clades" that further vary in appearance, from the colourful plumage of the Psittra, to the powerful build of the Aven.
Biological Traits
While the Vyndikai all resemble various birds, they are further divided into various Clades.
Aven: Resemble various hawks, eagles, and falcons, and are among the most recogniseable of the Vyndikai.
Striga: Resemble various owls, and are considered to be the most magically adept of the Vyndikai.
Cathari: Resemble vultures and condors.
Corvai: Resemble ravens and crows.
Passari: Resemble sparrows and jays, and are the most common of the Vyndikai.
Psittra: Resemble parrots.
Phasona: Resemble peafowl.
Genetics and Reproduction
The Vyndikai are an egg laying species.
Ecology and Habitats
The Vyndikai can be found in a variety of environments, particularly those of high elevation.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The Vindikai have a varied diet.
Additional Information
Facial characteristics
The Vyndikai all have faces resembling various birds, with characteristics such as beak shape and plumage varying between Clades.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
The Vyndikai are primarily found within the floating isles that make up the "continent" of Veyos, though small populations of them can be found throughout Aelor and Eulan.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The Vyndikai possess the keenest sight of all of Alteras inhabitants.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Most traditional Vyndikai names contain a number of birdcall-like sounds.
Average Technological Level
While the Vyndikai have begun adopting various forms of Machina, they continue to make use of the various enchantments that power much of their technology.
Common Dress Code
Much of traditional Vyndikai clothing is colourful in a similar manner to their plumage, as well as lightweight and easy to move in.
Culture and Cultural Heritage
The Vyndikai are all united by their common goal of maintaining balance in the world, typically through combating the Rooteaters and safeguarding dangerous knowledge. This belief has its roots in the Vyndikai being one of the few inhabitants capable of traversing the broken fragments of the world before the advent of Airships, thus making them ideal for the task.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
The Vyndikai are largely neutral towards the other inhabitants of Altera, being more concerned with their own mission of maintaining balance in the world. They are, however, willing to work alongside others to see this mission through.
