Love Magic
Love is often said to be the most powerful force in the universe. In the land of Altairus, love magic is indeed one of the most powerful forms of magic, which also makes it the most dangerous. There are many controversies and stipulations surrounding this particular kind of spell casting.
General
The practice of love magic is mainly a subset of Light magic, though it does include some spells from the Dark element as well. In addition, it has a strong overlap with persuasion magic, which may account for many of its controversies.
Like persuasion magic, love magic is focused on altering the will. Specifically, it works with the emotion of love to sway one's mind in one way or another. It encompasses a broad category of spells, but its most well-known application is the creation of love potions (also known as "love poisons").
Controversy
The use of love magic is quite controversial in the world of Altairus. Generally, it is accepted that only experienced alchemists should attempt to make use of it. This is because love, as a concept, is very unwieldy. It is not uncommon for love magic spells to go horribly awry or have unexpected side effects. In fact, one of the reasons why love potions are often referred to as "love poisons" is because the alchemy of love can easily overwhelm the body and brain if formulas are not followed to the most precise number. Universal love magic is less likely to have adverse side effects, but since it is the rarest type, it is not used often.
Aside from this, there is the issue of consent. As mentioned above, love magic has a large overlap with persuasion magic. Many nations have strict laws concerning persuasion magic, as it can be used to override the will of another. In many places, it is illegal to use any kind of persuasion magic on royalty or other authorities, unless they are incapable of making sound decisions on their own. By extention, love magic tends to be banned, too. Even in areas where it is not banned, love magic is strictly regulated, and there are harsh penalties for misusing it.
