Cerulean Edge

The Cerulean Edge encompasses the southmost tip of Heraklea. Located just south of the Ghast's Taiga, it consists of several different environments.

Geography

The Cerulean Edge consists of a mountain range to the south, several plateaus to the east, and a cold desert just north of both.

Localized Phenomena

The Cerulean Edge is named for both the color of its ice sheet and of its rocks. The ice sheet over the Cerulean Desert reflects the sky, so it is either the light blue of midday or the deep lapis lazuli of evening.

Underneath the ice sheet, as well as on the mountains and plateaus, the ground consists of grayish-azure stone, the color of the stormy sky.

Climate

Being so close to the planet's southern pole, the Cerulean Edge is deathly cold all year round, even more so than the Ghast's Taiga. Despite this, the sun shines there almost constantly, giving some scant warmth to the land.

The Cerulean Desert receives very little snowfall. Rather, the ground is covered in a thick sheet of bluish ice that rarely cracks or splits. It is estimated to be at least one kilometer deep.

The mountains and plateaus receive a bit more precipitation, so they are more likely to be covered in snow. They have their rainy season in the winter and their dry season in the summer.

Fauna & Flora

The flora and fauna that live in the Cerulean Edge are predominantly of the Air and Water energies. Many are cold-adapted strains of species that live in the Harmony Sands Desert. It is believed that sometime in the past, these species migrated across the continent and adapted to the new environment.

One of these is the icicle cactus. Believed to have originated from the Blade Bee Badlands, it has since grown sharp icicles for spines on its snowman-like build.

Another notable species is the tundra basilisk. Like its cousin, the tundra basilisk resembles a feathered raptor and can run at speeds of 120 mph. Unlike the common basilisk, however, it has white feathers and breathes freezing ice clouds rather than flames.
