Adamantite
Adamantite is the hardest stone in all of Altairus. Found only in the deepest caverns of the tallest mountains, it is legendarily referred to as "the unbreakable stone."
Properties
Material Characteristics
Adamantite has a similar color and consistency as obsidian. It is shiny and black, and when it breaks or cracks, it does so with sharp edges. It can be distinguished from obsidian by the faintly reddish sheen it gives off when a light is cast on its facets.
In its natural state, it takes the shape of a rectangular prism. It is most often found in deposits containing other igneous rocks.
Physical & Chemical Properties
As mentioned above, adamantite is known as the hardest stone in Altairus. While not completely unbreakable, there are very few things that can reliably shatter it. On the Mohs Hardness Scale, it would rate an 11: just above that of diamond.
Just like diamond, only adamantite can reliably cut adamantite. This makes it a sought-out choice for special armors and weapons alike, as well as for stone-cutting tools.
Adamantite is a metalloid. It has many characteristics that metals share; it is malleable when heated and has a fairly low melting point.
Due to its high conductivity and black color, adamantite easily absorbs and radiates energy, including Anima.
Geology & Geography
Adamantite is only formed through extreme heat and pressure. As such, it is found only deep within Altairus's mantle and underneath massive mountains such as Mt. Mischief. This combined with the difficulty in extracting it makes it incredibly expensive and hard to obtain. It is not commonly used in architecture for this reason.
History & Usage
Discovery
It is believed that the Gremlins of Mt. Mischief were the first to discover adamantite hidden underneath the mountain. However, this is hardly verifiable.
Everyday use
In addition to the uses above, adamantite is also used to make wendigo wards and other magical artifacts meant to last a long time.
There exists an advanced spell that seals one's Daemon within a chunk of adamantite fashioned to look like a heart. While this protects the one whose Daemon is sealed from dying unless the adamantite heart is destroyed, it also removes the host's tender emotions, leading to a condition known only as Stone Black Heart.
