Custodian Seal

GM-Info!
Work in progress!
Slightly NSFW!
The Custodian Seal is palm-sized, flat, and cast from a dark metal that no current metallurgist has been able to classify. It carries no visible markings. It does not leave the person it has decided belongs to it. It is a key to a vault that no one in Bridgeport knows exists, protected by a guardian that no one in Bridgeport knows is still working.

Description

The seal is a smooth disc roughly the diameter of a spread hand, slightly thicker at the centre than the edge. The dark metal has a faint surface texture, not quite grain and not quite engraving, that shifts in appearance depending on the angle of light. Under careful examination with magnification, the texture resolves into extremely fine interlocking sigils in a script that pre-Titan scholars classify as administrative, the visual language of record-keeping and property management. The seal is heavier than it appears. It does not corrode, scratch, chip, or respond to heat. Attempts to melt, shatter, or unmake it are in vain.

History and Origin

The Custodian Seal predates the Titan Wars. It was created as an administrative instrument by the sorcerer-kings who had created the Titans. Its purpose was custodial in the literal sense: it identifies the authorised keeper of a sealed vault located deep beneath the harbour district, grants access to the vault's entrance, and authorises the use of the vault's contents. The seal was designed for a world in which ownership was non-negotiable and enforced by the vault's assigned warden: the titanforged construct now resting at the base of Bridgeport harbour. The warden has never stopped running its enforcement protocol. The vault has never been opened.
The seal has passed through multiple custodians over the centuries, most of whom died quickly after receiving it because they had no idea what they were holding. The most recent chain of custody before Mirja Copperhand is unclear. The salvager who sold it to her acquired it from a collapsed ruin site in the eastern hills of the county.
