Astrals
Spirits that originate from beyond the astral are known as astrals. Many reside on the outer planes beyond the astral but there are some species that originate on the astral plane and feed on the travelers of the transatory plane. Those that originate on the outer planes can manifest or be summoned to the prime material plane if they can be given a physical form as a host either parasitically or symbiotically. This can be a manufactured body, part of a ritual, or even posess the host. When defeated on the primal the spirit returns to its origin unless it is bound or destroyed.
Fiends are commonly summoned by cultists to make bargains or grant power. Fiends who are bound will find any way to brake their binds to return unless there is something more to gain for them in the prime material. Fiends are selfish or chaotic in nature and have an agenda that often causes problems for mortals on the prime material.
Celestials on the other hand often form symbiotic relationships with their summoners to assist at the task at hand and then are dismissed to return to their plane of origin. Very rarely are celestials bound against their wills. Celestials represent altruistic or concepts of justice that are in direct opposition of fiends. When the fiends are not busy waring with one another they battle with celestials over the fate of mortals in the afterlife.
Transmundane is a catch all term that represents a being that is not aligned with the celestials or the fiends. They represent neutrality is all forms and have agendas that are only understood by their own. They don't interfere in the affairs of mortals from the prime unless they are summoned to do a task.
Natives to the astral are rare but they have physical forms that allow them to traverse the adjacent planes. Many are mortal in their own right and have their own agendas that may or may not involve mortals from the prime material.
