I. DAGR ANNARR — THE DIFFERENT DAY
Joturvolk stóð á heimr vorr. Joturvolk þekkt haer. Joturvolk þekkt stein. Joturvolk þekkt djup.
The Joturvolk stood on our world. The Joturvolk knew the sea. The Joturvolk knew the stone. The Joturvolk knew the deep.
Þrír volk. Eitt staðr. Þetta var ekki valið. Þetta gerðist.
Three peoples. One place. This was not chosen. This happened.
Dagr var annarr. Joturvolk var hér — ekki þar. Haer var nýr. Joturvolk þekkt eigi enn.
The day was different. The Joturvolk was here — not there. The sea was new. The Joturvolk did not know it yet.
II. VERDRSPLIT — THE WORLD-SPLIT
Engin eldur. Engin storm. Engin orrusta.
No fire. No storm. No battle.
Heimr klofnaði. Joturvolk fór í gegnum. Heimr lokaðist á bak.
The world split. The Joturvolk passed through. The world closed behind.
Joturvolk leit til bak. Ekkert að sjá. Joturvolk sneri fram. Verk að gera.
The Joturvolk looked behind. Nothing to see. The Joturvolk turned forward. Work to do.
III. STEIN OG HAER — STONE AND SEA
Joturvolk prófaði stein. Steinr hélt. Joturvolk prófaði haer. Haer hélt.
The Joturvolk tested the stone. The stone held. The Joturvolk tested the sea. The sea held.
Nýr heimr. Nóg.
A new world. Enough.
Joturvolk byggði. Joturvolk veiðti. Joturvolk mintist.
The Joturvolk built. The Joturvolk hunted. The Joturvolk remembered.
IV. FORNMAL — THE OLD ACCOUNT
Hér er þat er Joturvolk veit.
Here is what the Joturvolk knows.
Heimr er eigi fastur. Heimr klofnar og lokar. Aðrir volk komu fyrr. Aðrir volk koma síðr.
The world is not fixed. The world splits and closes. Other peoples came before. Other peoples come after.
Joturvolk segir þetta hér. Joturvolk segir þetta alltaf. Svo þegar dagr er annarr eftir —
The Joturvolk says this here. The Joturvolk says this always. So that when the day is different again —
V. LOKAORÐ — THE CLOSE
(One voice. The saga-keeper alone. No accompaniment.)
Joturvolk veit hvað gerist þegar heimr klofnar. Joturvolk hefur séð. Joturvolk man.
The Joturvolk knows what happens when the world splits. The Joturvolk has seen. The Joturvolk remembers.
Verdrsplit kemur eftir. Joturvolk verður hér. Joturvolk mun vita.
The world-split comes again. The Joturvolk will be here. The Joturvolk will know.
