Alaiye
Close to a hundred million strong, the Alaiye are the beating heart of the Esheri Commonwealth (to the point that they are refereed to as Esheri without controversy quite often, at least in the larger cities). The dominant population in the Commonwealth's central heartlands, with populations to be found in all its major cities. There are also large diaspora populations to be found near the Illyric coast, where at the time of the revolution the then-ruling King-Emperor granted many emigrating notables land and title in exchange for fealty.

Family names
Under the Commonwealth, family names have been standardized. On the formal formation of a new household, a new name is chosen for it, to be carried by its members and any resulting children until they, in turn, do the same.
Practically speaking, patriotic or careerist types and those in the great cities are likely to choose some virtue, official hero of the day, or recent scientific achievement as their name. The more traditional, rural and apolitical overwhelmingly take the name of the most senior/prestigious man's father or birth-house.
