Nevron
A Nevron is a type of Undead creature specifically formed from the brain stem of a Sapient creature with magical abilities related to either Necrourgy or Enchantment. These Undead have no physical form of their own outside of their brain stem and a series of glowing tentacles like those of a jellyfish. Instead, Nevrons will hide inside another dead body and puppet that creature instead, often meaning that they cannot be distinguished from regular skeletons or zombies. The bodies controlled by Nevrons are often referred to as Marionettes due to the string-like filaments Nevrons use to manipulate the bodies. Some Nevrons occupy the body they are controlling, while others choose to remotely control their Marionettes.
Nevrons are relatively rare as they can only be crafted with the assistance of a Necrourgist or another Nevron.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Nevrons are formed of a Sapient brain stem and multiple long, delicate tentacles similar to those of a jellyfish. They are typically between two to five inches long, depending on the Sapient creature they came from, and typically have between fifteen and fifty tentacles.
Biological Traits
Nevrons are divided into three types, which determine the kinds of bodies they can puppet. They are then divided into three tiers of power, depending on the strength of their puppeting abilities. These tiers are typically a regular Nevron, which can puppet a single body; a Master Nevron, which can control up to five bodies; and a Host Nevron, which can control up to twenty five bodies.
Osteo-Nevron
Osteo-Nevrons can only puppet corpses that are predominantly bone with little to no flesh remaining. They are the most common type of Nevron, and their Marionettes are capable of great speed and dexterity, but are typically weak.
Sarx-Nevron
Sarx-Nevrons can puppet corpses that retain flesh and muscle. They are often stronger and more resilient than the Marionettes of Osteo-Nevrons, but are slower and more cumbersome.
Vios-Nevron
Vios-Nevrons are incredibly rare and are the most dangerous type of Nevron. This is because they are able to take control of bodies that are still alive, reading their thoughts and memories and using them to infiltrate settlements.
Genetics and Reproduction
Created only though Necrourgic rituals, Nevrons must be created by a Necrourgist or another Nevron of suitable power.
Behaviour
Nevrons are typically reclusive, hiding their frail bodies and avoiding direct conflict where possible. Most are passive and peaceful, retaining enough understanding of life to be able to communicate and interact with the world around them, but having little to no memory of their life before Undeath. They are considered to have an average level of intelligence, though it is uncertain if this intelligence is inherited from the creature that they are created from, or a level of intelligence gifted by the magic that made them.
It is thought that Nevrons do not actually possess a Soul despite being capable of compassion, etc., but are in fact merely an echo of life, and simply move around seeking purpose.
Rarely, Nevrons are created filled with rage and hatred toward life. These Nevrons are particularly dangerous as they will go out of their way to hunt down and eliminate any living beings they come across, Sapient or non.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Nevrons are blind and "see" using a form of Etherlocation, where they send subtle pulses of Ethereal energy out into the world and form "pictures" using the information sent back to them. They cannot discern between colours, cannot read, not can they interpret pictures. They hear and speak through Telepathy, being able to read the surface thoughts of any creature they come into contact with and understand any language "spoken" by them. Nevrons are also able to determine truth from lie, and cannot therefore be deceived by such dishonesty.
