Dunamicide

Frequently referred to as Mana Death and occasionally known as Irreversible Dunamic System Failure, Dunamicide is the complete and irreversible destabilisation and deterioration of the Mana System. It is an incredibly serious and potentially fatal Dunamic condition that results in the permanent inability to process and/or utilise Mana for spellcasting. It is sometimes referred to as "a Mana-user's ultimate torment", and many never fully recover mentally from the trauma that Dunamicide brings.

There are considered three types of Dunamicide:

• Monosystemic Dunamicide - which only targets a single part of the Mana System, usually a specific set of vessels or organ structure
• Multisystemic Dunamicide - which targets multiple parts of the Mana System, usually multiple parts of the same triadic area of the System (e.g. the entire Prevesical System)
• Pansystemic Dunamicide - targets the entire Mana System, resulting in 100% deterioration of the System.

Dunamicide of the Prevesical System and Pandunamicide are considered the most serious forms of Dunamicide as they typically lead to the most fatalities. This is because those types of Dunamicide destroy the Innate Spellcasting system within species that feature them, which can lead to significant trauma that many do not recover from.

Once Dunamicide occurs, it is permanent and cannot be reversed. While there are methods to delay or prevent it, once the condition takes hold it cannot be treated or cured, and the results are irreversible.

Causes

The causes of Dunamicide are tricky to pin down, as there are multiple reasons that a Mana System can "die". For example, repeated exposure to raw Mana can cause severe overload within the System and lead to Dunamicide, while severe and repeated Mana Scarring can also lead to the slow necrotisation of the Mana System and deterioration of the Dunamocyte formation process.

It is also possible to "force" Dunamicide with certain types of magical effects, though these are often only usable by the highest calibre spellcasters, Ascended, or other Transcendental Beings.

Prognosis

Certain types of Dunamicide can be fatal or result in poor quality of life for Innately magical beings. While Dunamicide does not necessarily result in death amongst the non-Innately magical, it results in the inability to cast spells, which can result in deterioration in the quality of life in all spellcasters.
