Alistair Syndicate

A syndicate run by the Alistair family. They are a family business with both legitimate as well as illegitimate income streams.

Agenda

The Alistair Syndicate serves the interests of the Alistair family. Its many components aim to achieve whatever goals the various family members set. A big part is simply to accumulate wealth. Another is to help in the research into the supernatural in general and the the Alistairs family sorcery specifically.
To the public, they are a powerful family clan of billionaires, who do all the things expected of billionaires.

Organizational Structure

They direct it with brutal efficiency from the shadows. The legitimate institutions include a research facility associated with the New York University, several holdings and investment firms and a small bookshop, specialized in antiques and specialist books. These ventures are run by members of the family itself, or by members of trusted branch families of the Alistair clan.
The less savory parts of the syndicate are run by them as well, but not directly. The syndicate is headquartered in Manhattan, but active all over the world. They are involved in the black market of supernatural creatures, materials, weapons and knowledge. There are very few things they have not at least some hand in.

History

The Alistairs Syndicate was originally active in Scotland and then Great Britain. They competed with several other families and organizations, always needed to stay ahead of law enforcement as well. They continually adapted to new discoveries and changing circumstances as the centuries went by. They managed to strike a balance between growth and risk for a very long time. However, in the time of the British Empire they overextended significantly out of greed. The syndicate came under pressure and had significant financial problems that they could not easily resolve. As the pressure mounted the family decided to cut their losses and flee to the New World. There they built a new syndicate that, became well accomplished and integrated with the local supernatural communities.
