The Roiling Pool

The lair of this guardian is quite vast, and uniquely warm compared to the others in this area of the complex. Tackling this Guardian will be a true test for adventurers.

Design

The ice and calmly flowing water of the halls gives way to a stone landing in a vast room, a huge pool of water roils in front of you. Massive icicles hang from the ceiling, occasionally snapping off and splashing down into the pool where they each buoy for a while before melting into nothing. Across the room off to one side and a few feet away from the wall is a similar stone platform but no matching exit to the entrance you used is apparent.

Entries

The hall you entered through and a hole in a stone platform on the opposite side of the room appears to be the only two ways in or out of the room.

Sensory & Appearance

It's a sauna in the most literal sense. boiling water steams up the room. It almost feels like it's raining slightly as the glacial ceiling condenses the steam back into water. The loud cracks of icicles as they snap off and the percussive splash as they hit the pool dominate the room

Hazards & Traps

The water is boiling, falling in is definitely going to sting a bit.

Special Properties

As a lair this room grants special abilities to the its resident Guardian

Architecture

Icicles hang from the glacier like ceiling. In the surrounding halls and rooms a fog slightly obscures your view but you can see and feel water running down the walls, flowing through ornate tiny canals carved into the smooth stone floor turning to steam as it moves about. Laminar spurts of water leap about from fountain to fountain made from elaborate ice sculptures.

Environmental Effects

The sharp chill of the rest of this area falls away to the sauna like atmosphere of the Roiling Pool. Likewise the fog has burned off as the steam rises high up to ceiling, looking like it might be tempted to form clouds against the glacial ceiling.
