  • Western Nehwon
Sundered from us by gulfs of time and stranger dimensions dreams the ancient world of Nehwon with its towers and skulls and jewels, its swords and sorceries. Nehwon's known realms crowd about the Inner Sea: northward the green-forested fierce Land of the Eight Cities, eastward the steppe-dwelling Mingol horsemen and the desert where caravans creep from the rich Eastern Lands and the River Tilth. But southward, linked to the desert only by the Sinking Land and further warded by the Great Dike and the Mountains of Hunger, are the rich grain fields and walled cities of Lankhmar, eldest and chiefest of Nehwon's lands. Dominating the Land of Lankhmar and crouching at the silty mouth of the River Hlal in a secure corner between the grain fields, the Great Salt Marsh, and the Inner Sea is the massive-walled and mazy-alleyed metropolis of Lankhmar, thick with thieves and shaven priests, lean-framed magicians and fat-bellied merchants—Lankhmar the Imperishable, the City of the Black Toga.
    —Fritz Leiber, “Induction”

    The Island of Lankhmaria

Lankhmaria is the long, mountainous island upon which the Kingdom of Lankhmar and its ancient capital are situated. The island lies within the Inner Sea, its rugged spine running north to south through forests, fertile plains, dry uplands, marshlands, and broken mountain country.   At the northern end of the island stands the great metropolis of Lankhmar, marked upon the map by the northernmost star. From its walls, roads and trade routes extend southward through the settled heartlands, following mountain passes, river valleys, forests, and stretches of cultivated country. Smaller cities, strongholds, ports, and isolated settlements are scattered throughout the island, while the central mountain chain forms a natural barrier between its eastern and western regions.   The southern reaches of Lankhmaria are broader and less densely settled. Forested country dominates the southwest, while arid plains and desert-like terrain stretch across much of the southeast. Coastal settlements and harbors bind these distant regions to the larger commercial world of the Inner Sea.

    Scale and Land Area

Each side of a map hex represents approximately 60 miles. A regular hex of that size has an apothem of approximately 52 miles and an area of approximately 9,353 square miles.   Based upon the portion of the hex grid occupied by the island, Lankhmaria encompasses approximately 48,000 square miles of land. Because its coastline is irregular and some portions of the map are obscured by markers and terrain symbols, this figure should be treated as a cartographic estimate rather than an exact survey.   For a real-world comparison, Lankhmaria is approximately the size of the U.S. state of Mississippi, although its long, narrow, mountainous shape is considerably different.
Supporting Cast
  • Benneth Atrellion
Benneth Atrellion, raised in Lankhmar by his renowned portraitist father, Bexley Atrellion, and Marius Tidewater, grew up in a world of privilege and art, deeply influenced by his father's celebrated work. His life transformed after witnessing a wizard's duel, leading him to apprentice under Merreck the Red in wizardry, blending his artistic heritage with newfound magical skills. Completing his training, Benneth received a symbolic "Coat of the Wyld Thistle" from Merreck, marking his transition into a skilled mage and honoring the bond formed through his journey.
  • High Priestess Diana Masters
Diana Masters, a revered priestess at the Temple of Tyr in Lankhmar, is also the beloved romantic partner of Keesha Knight. Born to renowned jewel crafters, her parents run a well-known shop in Kvarch Nar. Diana's allure lies not just in her striking beauty but also in her sharp intellect, and she is as kind-hearted as she is affluent.
  • Ikiri Kcarm
Ikiri's life in Kokgnab was disrupted at a young age when she was abandoned by her mother and lost her father at sea, leading to a challenging upbringing in an orphanage. Determined to make a difference, she apprenticed at the Tailor's Guild and was driven to investigate the disappearance of her fellow orphans, discovering the existence of the "Order of the Ghostslayer," a group of Blood Hunters. After enduring a transformative and grueling ritual, Ikiri's vision quest revealed her destiny to fight against dark forces, marking the beginning of her journey as a member of the Order and a protector against evil.
  • John Klegg
John Klegg, commonly known as "Klegg," hails from Karja Tal and is the uncle of Jack Klegg, who has recently been kidnapped. This abduction has left Klegg deeply distressed and virtually incapacitated in dealing with the crisis. Adding to the complexity, Klegg has fallen under the scrutiny of the Heretic, who suspects him of intentionally tampering with a cheese platter sent to them. This suspicion arose after it was discovered that the cheese was laced with a drug, which induced sleep and resulted in the Heretic waking up in a prison. The drug's sedative effects were unmistakable, further fueling doubts about Klegg's involvement and intentions.
  • Keesha Knight
As deadly as she is beautiful, the once infamous Keesha Knight has joined the Order of Ix working for the side of good (for once).
  • Lord Pranax
Lord Pranax, an archaeologist, harbors an intense passion for unearthing artifacts, backed by substantial financial resources to support their discovery and recovery. Despite his credentials as a refined scholar, his professional achievements are often eclipsed by his misogynistic and drunken behavior. The true intentions behind Lord Pranax's pursuits are shrouded in ambiguity, leaving many to wonder whether they stem from nefarious purposes or are merely a reflection of his self-absorbed, unseemly character.
LIVE

In search of more children

The Heretic found and rescued children from the dungeons below the Temple. One of the rescued children reported that there were more children, including his sister, locked away in different places. The Heretic promised to try and find this boy's sister and anyone else held hostage.

Within the past few years, the King of Lankhmar has been actively involved with and funding an effort to bring forth Black Dragons into Nehwon from another land. Our adventurers, known collectively as "The Heretic" have joined forces with an organization known as "The Order of Ix" which is simultaneously trying to prevent this effort and instead, secure a lair for Platinum Dragons.
