Not all wizards have the luxury of official training. Some have had to learn magic off the cuff through keen observation and mimicry. This off-the-cuff, street-wise method of acquiring arcane knowledge has afforded these wizards a deeper understanding of the intricacies of their own magics and greater control over their spellcasting. These wizards excel in back alley fights and often know shortcuts to quicker casting.
Beginning when you select this tradition at 2nd level, you gain proficiency in either Deception or Performance. Additionally, you can now spend half the gold needed to copy a wizard spell into your spellbook if you take twice the amount of time.
Starting at 2nd level, you can attempt to learn a new spell through observation. When a creature within 120 feet of you that you can see and hear casts a spell that is on the wizard spell list with a base level you are able to cast, you can attempt to memorize the verbal, somatic, and material components of the spell. You must make an Intelligence (Arcana) check to learn the spell. The DC equals 10 + the spell's level.
On a success, you have the spell "Memorized" and can cast it as if it were one of your prepared spells. The Memorized spell does not count against the number of spells you can have prepared for the day. Once you have successfully memorized a spell, you cannot attempt to learn a different one until you finish a short rest. The spell remains memorized until this feature is used again to learn a different spell.
If you keep the same spell memorized for a consecutive number of days equal to 10 minus half your spellcaster level rounded down (minimum of 1), you are then able to transcribe the spell into your spellbook as one of your known spells. Learning spells in this way does not require you to spend any additional time or gold to transcribe.
At 14th level, you gain a second use of this feature.
Starting at 6th level, you can cast a cantrip that normally has a casting time of one action as a bonus action instead. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.
Beginning at 10th level, your street smarts have provided you an advantage in close-quarters combat. You can now add your Intelligence modifier to your initiative rolls. Additionally, you no longer have difficulty aiming ranged spell attacks and cast them while in melee with another creature without suffering disadvantage.
At 14th level, your understanding of the construction of spells themselves has advanced enough that you are now able to decipher the magic of other magical disciplines. When you gain a wizard level, one of the two spells added to your spellbook for free can be from any any spell list. The chosen spell counts as a wizard spell for you and must be of a level for which you have spell slots, as shown on the Wizard table.
Additionally, you can now use your Spell Memorization feature to learn spells from any spell list.
